Good start!

Day 2

I was surprised this morning to weight 500 gr. less than 24 hrs ago.
Current weight 80.9 Kg. Yes, more than 200 gr. in 24 hrs. but who cares.
Today has been a busy day but I was able to have a good breakfast, a healthy lunch and a light dinner including 2 snacks as well. I still need to drink 2 cups of water to complete my daily intake.
I need to start downloading pictures of what I eat so I can show you with examples... But so far so good. According to my fitness pal app, yesterday I had 1220 cal allowed. I ate 1023 cal and on top spent 264 cal from exercise. That gave me a net loss of 461 cal or 289 gr. Very approximate with what I lost but part of it I believe was water.
My good friends from University / Medical School are supporting me through a chat group. Some of them are super healthy and very active but all of them are very nice and their support is mostly welcomed. Their recommendations included:

- have smaller but frequent meals through the day
- don't feel hungry at any point of the day
- include all food groups but the healthier representations of each one
- be more active
- go slow
- set small goals
- drink plenty of water
- get a support group

Those are general principles that I will try to incorporate little by little in my daily life.

Tomorrow I'll give you my next update.
Hopefully it will include good numbers/feelings.

See you,

Dr T.

Day 1 of my personal healthy challenge - Jan 25,2015.

This morning my weight was 81.4 Kg. I am 1.65 mt tall. My BMI is 29.9. According to BMI classification I am 0.1 away to be considered obese.

BMI classification:

Underweight: <18.5
Normal weight: 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight: 25 - 29.9
Obesity: 30 or greater

Pretty depressing after being an active and healthy person at 52 Kg. That is not realistic any longer after having 2 children and 20 years older but, I can definitely improve my current health status.
That is my goal. To be healthier.
I need to go to normal weight category. That is all I ask. I want to stop feeling heavy and clumsy. I want to be faster and smarter... Good nutrition is the main way to get to it...

I will be using the following apps to help register this journey:

Mi fitness pal - free
BMI calculator (Data supply) - free
Run Keeper - free

All are free and available from the web.
If there is anybody out there that want/needs to join me in this challenge please feel free to comment and I'll be happy to share with you my experience and tricks.

So far I already had breakfast and had 2 cups of water.  It included 2 scramble eggs with low fat cheese and mushroom, 2 slices of Canadian bacon and arugula salad with 1 slice of baked turkey, flaxseeds, nuts and 1 tablespoon of low fat Thousand Island dressing.

So far so good. Let's see what else can I do the rest of the day. I need to lose 200 gr per day. That is a very achievable goal I believe.

I am planning to go to the gym (too cold to run outdoor) and study the rest of the day.

Talk to you later (TTYL).

Update at 8pm:
Almost done for the day.
Have been doing my homework. Did 30 min of cardio (indoor; it was -23C outside). I still have to eat dinner but I'm not feeling as hungry as I usually am.
Planning for a yogurt or a soup.
Tomorrow I need to go to work but I'll weight myself early morning to check my daily weight loss which needs to be at least 200 gr.
Wish me luck.

Tulip.

Every start is difficult.

I've been thinking about loosing weight for the last 11 years...
Yes, that's a lot of time to be just thinking about something, but I've tried so many times to lose weight and ended up bigger that I am currently very discouraged to just think about it again. So I've just decided that I need to share my experience with you people out there and maybe you can cheer me up in the process.
To give you a little of my background I am currently full time employee and have a husband, 2 kids and a house to take care of. My working day starts really early each day and finish late and on top of that I have to study. Yes, I am still studying like the majority of people that comes to Canada to start a new life as an adult. We have been here for the last 5 years and now we are true Canadians including passport and all...
English is not my first language but I'll write this blog in that language because it will be a good thing for me to practice.
I am a doctor/physician and I consider myself to have a little knowledge regarding diet and nutrients to be healthier. Perhaps if that was the only thing needed to lose weight, that would be extremely easy. Losing weight requires preparation, dedication, courage and a strong character and some times I am not the best with this attributes. It will also be a test of how determinate I am to reach my goals. I am currently slightly overweight and my BMI is not the ideal. I've gained approximately 10 kg in the past 5 years (average of 2 kg per winter) and that needs to stop.
Tomorrow I will weight myself before starting a modified version of the  South Beach Diet which has been the only diet that have worked for me in the past. I will post at least every 2 days of my advances or mishaps and I am looking forward to find any weight loss peers to whom I can share my experience and lose this extra weight that is bothering me so much.
If you start reading me after I reach my goal which is lose 200 gr per day in 7 weeks I'll be happy to be your inspiration and let you know that things are possible if you really focus and work hard to reach them.
Wish me luck...
See you tomorrow.
